What Are the National Film Awards?
In 1954, the National Film Awards were founded. One of the most esteemed and much-awaited occasions in the nation. The awards are given out by the President of India, and the public is then shown films that have won honors. The total number of awards has increased over time. The awards were first known as “State Awards,” and for the first six years, twelve regional films each received two President’s Gold Medals, two certificates of merit, and two silver medals. The number of awards rose with time. For the films from 1967, separate prizes for artists and technicians were introduced in 1968. Features, Non-Features, and Best Writing on Cinema are the categories into which the awards are bestowed. The selection of the winners in the Features and Non-Features categories honors the best cinematic accomplishments across a range of categories. The ‘Best Writing on Cinema’ section aims to promote the study of and appreciation for cinema as an art form while also disseminating knowledge and critical analysis of the genre. The National Film Awards’ mission is to support artistic, technical, and socially relevant films that advance the nation’s unity and integrity by fostering an appreciation for the diverse cultures of the country in cinematic form. The jury, which is made up of individuals with renown in the humanities, other related arts, and cinema, selects the award winners.
