A Mobile Movie created by a Mobile Director? How intriguing! Perhaps you’ve seen a mobile film yourself; maybe you were a part of it and know someone else who was. It is very interesting to observe the various filming methods that were used in the making of your favorite film. Many films today are filmed on location utilizing green screens, while others are filmed inside large sound stages constructed with large walls of glass. Some are shot on location in beautiful natural settings, while others are shot inside studios complete with all of the technology that is available to us today.
This is a photo that was taken on location inside the Santa Barbara studio of Thomas Bees one afternoon. This one is constructed and finished by our vocational specialist jared who teaches the older students on the creation of our famous bees trees. He also teaches us how to properly use green screen software so that we may create the exact background or scenery that we desire on location. After some careful discussions it was decided that we would like to create a series of motion backgrounds that could be used in place of a green screen in order to achieve the effect that we were after.
We decided that the best thing that we could do for the use of this new technology that we had found out about this past spring was to make a series of three wooden bee scenes. In order to accomplish this task, we needed to purchase three wooden spindles that were similar in color to the color of the honeybees that we were using. This would allow for the consistency in the size of the frames and also the consistent placement of the pictures within the frame. These bee scenes were then assembled using my salvaged plywood and a little bit of my own handiwork.
When I found out that my homemade Bee Movie project was going to be such a great hit with our local high school students I immediately set out to sell my custom made Bee Movie package value to them. One of the things that I really enjoyed about creating these special tiny movies was the fact that I was able to provide a real sense of awe and wonder to everyone that I showed them to. The main intention of my offering was to provide a value that was just beyond the reach of the average person.
Most of the people who purchased my Bee Movie packages valued them so highly that they ordered more than one set as a gift for their friends and family. After all, they all knew that my retirement years were going to be some of the most wonderful times of my life. What better way to say thank you than to give back to those who have supported me throughout my entire career? Not only did I receive several phone calls and emails from one very appreciative customer but I also received a nice smile and several personalized notes as well. In fact, one customer wrote me personally to express how much they appreciated my retirement gift which was a wooden “Wish You Were Here” wish book.
Once I got all of my supplies together, I set out to do my research on how to build my own customized photo pallet. After some careful reading it was clear to me that I needed to purchase my own wooden piece. The internet is the best place for anyone looking to start a project like this because you can find just about anything you are looking for at any time. This allowed me to learn everything I need to know about my newly restored wood and my favorite memory. The finished product was simply beautiful!
Mobile Movies: Hampton Roads Edition provides some quality educational material in addition to my custom made photo pallet. If you are looking for something meaningful to give as a retirement present then give my precious custom hand crafted musical instrument. My students have been raving about it and so has my family.
