If you follow these 15 tips from animal experts, cows and buffaloes will not fall ill in winter

To take special care of cows and buffaloes in winter and protect them from diseases, it is necessary to plan how to give green fodder, what minerals to include, and when to give drinking water, as we do many times, and at what time to give feed throughout the day. After fodder, the biggest part of the cost of animal husbandry is the expenditure on their diseases.

Whether the disease is small or big, the animal keeper suffers two losses. One is the cost of doctors and medicine, and the second is the decrease in production due to disease. If even a single cow or buffalo falls ill, the total cost of the farm is affected. This is the reason why two months of winter (December-January) are considered very special in animal husbandry.

These two months are very special not only in terms of production related to animal husbandry but also in other matters. According to animal experts, the winter season is at its peak at this time. As soon as cold winds blow, one starts feeling cold. Drops of dew also start falling at night and in the morning. There are days that the sun doesn’t rise.

Some seasonal diseases prove fatal for animals. The milk of animals also decreases. But if some precautionary steps are taken on the advice of experts, then along with avoiding financial loss, our animals will also remain healthy.

Take care of cows and buffaloes in December-January like this.

  • If there is a severe cold for two months, make arrangements to protect the animals from the cold.
  • Most buffaloes come into heat during the winter season. Get the animal impregnated as soon as this happens.
  • If the buffalo does not come into heat again even after 60-70 days of giving birth, then get it examined immediately.
  • To protect the animals from external insects, get medicine sprayed from time to time.
  • Get the buffalo artificially inseminated with a male of Murrah breed or at the nearest center.
  • Give medicine to the animals on the advice of the doctor to protect them from stomach worms.
  • To bring cows and buffaloes into heat quickly, feed them a mineral mixture.
  • Consult a doctor to protect dairy animals from mastitis.
  • To get animals more green fodder, Berseem BL 10, BL 22, and BL 42 may be sown.
  • To get more Berseem fodder, sow mustard mixed with Chinese cabbage or oats.
  • Sowing mustard mixed with Berseem increases both the nutritional value and yield of the fodder.
  • If you are sowing Berseem in a new field, then first treat it with Rhizobium culture.
  • This time is considered better for sowing oats and Berseem.
  • To get more out of fodder, sow OS 6, OL 9, and Kent.
  • To make a calf a bull, castrate it at the age of six months.
