A 16-year-old cat named Rosinka followed a baby monkey after it was abandoned by its mother at a Russian zoo.
The 3-week-old squirrel monkey’s mother refused to hold it on her back, which could have been vital to its survival in the first few months of its life.
Cat Becomes Surrogate Mom to Abandoned Baby Monkey at Russian Zoo
Fearing that the monkey Fedor would die, the director of the Tyumen zoo experimented and gave it to her cat Rosinka, who has never had babies of her own.
The cat took a liking to the monkey and the animals lived together for about three weeks.
Fedor is constantly on Rosinka’s back, except when he needs to be fed milk.
Tatyana Antropova, the zoo’s director, says the monkey will stay with the cat for another month to get stronger and then could be transferred back to the zoo to live with her family and children.
