Star the bulldog wins the AKC National Championship
In the 22nd AKC National Championship, a bulldog named Star won the Best in Show competition. She beat out more than 5,300 canines to claim the title and win the $50,000 cash prize. This is the first time a Bulldog has won the award, although other breeds have won several times.
Star Mason, a 3-and-a-half-year-old bulldog from Glen Rose, Texas, won the Best in Show competition at the American Kennel Club’s National Championship, which took place last month in Orlando, Florida. The English Bulldog beat out a French bulldog, a bloodhound, and a German shepherd.
After her victory, Mason flew back to her home in Woodstock, Georgia, with a check for $50,000. Although she was the star of the show, her owner and handler Dennis O’Connor also made a name for himself.
AKC Obedience Classic
The AKC Obedience Classic is an annual two-day competition that showcases dogs from across the country. There are 60 breeds represented at the event. It takes place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
On the first day, dogs compete in three classes. These include Novice, Open, and Utility. They will also compete in three more rounds on the second day.
The AKC Obedience Classic will once again be held alongside the AKC Agility Invitational in 2022. Both events will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The AKC Agility Invitational will feature the top five (5) canines in each breed.
AKC Agility Invitational
The AKC Agility Invitational is an annual dog show. This event takes place in Orlando, Florida. There are a number of AKC-recognized breeds that participate. Dogs must be at least six months old to compete in the event.
The event is open to teams of three dogs. After an evaluation, the top five dogs of each breed are invited to compete.
AKC holds two major agility events each year. The first is the Agility Invitational, which takes place one weekend each December. It is followed by the AKC National Championship. One of the most exciting elements of the competition was the Coursing Ability Test. This timed 100-yard dash is considered one of the best dog tests in the AKC calendar. Dogs race for the lure, which is then chased into a catch pen before returning to the finish line.
AKC National Owner-Handled Series Finals
The AKC National Owner-Handled Series, or NOHS, is a non-titling competition that honors owner-handlers. This series of dog shows is hosted in conjunction with the AKC National Championship. These competitions provide a venue for owners to showcase their quality dogs.
Each of the events in the series awards a prize to the owner-handler winner. Those who place in the top 10 of the breed are automatically eligible for the finals. During the AKC National Owner Handled Series, owners have the chance to show their dogs in a class competition, a judging panel, and a subsequent competition in the breed ring.
