The era for animals with disabilities has progressed dramatically in recent years. In addition to wheelchairs that can help paralyzed dogs and cats walk, prosthetic legs have also become available. Although it may be difficult for pups to adjust to new limbs, their ability to adapt is tremendous.
This thirteen-year-old rescue dog is just as lively as a domestic dog with her custom-suited legs! Hear her incredible story of hope in this video shared on August 18:
Amirah (@amira.amiracle) may have had a harrowing past, but she doesn’t let it stop her from making her life happier. Her mother explains that this sweet girl is a former Thai street dog rescue who not only grew up without front legs but also died after being shot in the head at the age of 9.
But, since being rescued, she has been living her lifestyle to the fullest, and even though she may be an elderly person, she didn’t stop herself from learning to walk in her Barbie purple prosthetic legs at the age of eleven.
She will now be able to play and run with her siblings who were kept, and she will also be able to sit like any other dog. In a later post, her mom explained that while she’ll be able to use a wheelchair to get around, having those legs will allow her to be more like a dog, putting her head down and sniffing the ground. If you’re a pup, that’s a huge deal, so it’s no wonder she loves them!
Prosthetic Limbs for Dogs
Prosthetic limbs can help dogs regain mobility after losing a limb due to injury, infection, or congenital conditions. They can drastically improve the lives of pets with these unique desires, allowing them to walk, run, and play again. In addition to increasing mobility, they can also help reduce pain and pressure on other joints and limbs.
They’re custom-fitted to ensure comfort for each dog and are made from lightweight materials like carbon fiber or plastic. They can usually be kept around using Velcro straps or sleeves. While most pups will need rehabilitation to help them develop strength and coordination, pups of all ages and sizes can benefit from these modern devices. While pricing can vary, most prosthetics cost less than $2000.

The abundance of benefits available to older rescue dogs is exemplified through this sweet female. So many are standing in shelters, looking for someone who will believe in them and give them every second chance to make a person’s day better.
