Love aaj kal Story: Twenty-two-year-old Zoe Chauhan (Sara Ali Khan) is averse to a serious long term relationship. She would like to have fun with no strings and pursue her career. But another love story from the past makes her question her own decisions.
Overview: Writer-director Imtiaz Ali narrates the 2020’Love Aaj Kal’ in the identical format as his hugely successful directorial in 2009 by the identical name. The love stories are fresh with different set of conflicts that change with time. Ali makes it applicable by showing us the comparison between small town-love that was simple yet hard versus the urban love that is complex and messed-up.
A complicated character, who has a plan to make merry and start her event management company, in a committed relationship settles down’ before she’. While Sara Ali Khan is the right age she falls short of convincingly pulling off the sophistication of her firebrand and fiercely independent character.
Sara looks gorgeous and has an imposing screen presence, but her performance does make you root for Zoe. Kartik Aaryan is good as the Raghu, whose transformation from a shy lovelorn small-towner to a Casanova, is believable.
As Veer, however Kartik doesn’t get to do over meekly follow round the love of his life and be at her beck and call. However, it’s Randeep Hooda, that leaves a lasting impression even. Sporting linen tops and a handlebar moustache, the underrated actor looks quite dapper.

He’s aptly cast for the role that is quite like Rishi Kapoor’s character in the original. It is his story that is far relatable more intriguing and entertaining. Ali uses vivid tones and backdrops to recreate the love story of Raghu with Leena played by debutante Arushi Sharma, who delivers efficiently. The flashback story of Love Aaj Kal is interrupted way too many times to accommodate the film narrative. While the film’s emotionally charged story is casual in its approach, there are barely any moments.
The soundtrack of the film is full of melody that adds value to the storytelling. The short runtime is another and with an intriguing first-half, but a second-half that is predictable.
‘Love Aaj Kal’ sets off to observe dysfunctional relationships and characters . It creates some emotional moments along the way, but does not quite leave you spellbound.
